Damascus, April 17 (SANA) Syria welcomed on Friday the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, describing it as an important step toward preventing further escalation in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that Syria continues to support all efforts aimed at preserving Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as ensuring the safety of its people.

The ministry expressed appreciation for regional and international efforts that contributed to reaching the agreement, and reaffirmed Syria’s readiness to support initiatives that strengthen stability and peace in Lebanon and the wider Arab region.

Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a 10-day ceasefire agreement had been reached in Lebanon.
