Damascus, April 6 (SANA) — The Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections is holding “intensive consultations” in Hasakah with the presidential team tasked with implementing the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), along with local community representatives, spokesperson Nawar Najmeh said in a statement to SANA on Monday.
Najmeh said the talks aim to finalize “the necessary arrangements and preparations” for organizing the elections in the province, adding that a detailed operational program will be announced once consultations conclude.
“The program will include the formation of subcommittees, defining the electoral bodies, and setting the date of the elections,” Najmeh said, outlining key steps of the process
He noted that the presidentially appointed third of the assembly is expected to be announced after the completion of the electoral process, explaining that this measure is intended to ensure fair representation of women and various social components within the legislature.
Najmeh added that the newly formed People’s Assembly will initially focus on drafting its internal bylaws and organizing its working mechanisms before moving to its legislative role of preparing and passing laws.
The electoral preparations in Hasakah come as part of broader efforts to implement governance arrangements following recent agreements aimed at stabilizing administrative and institutional processes in northeastern Syria.
Earlier, on February 2–3, 2026, the Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections announced plans to complete delayed elections in a number of areas, including Raqqa and Hasakah governorates, as well as Ain al-Arab in Aleppo countryside.
The phased rollout reflects a step-by-step implementation of electoral procedures, with Hasakah now expected to follow the same process applied earlier in other targeted areas. with the presidential team tasked with implementing the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), along with local community representatives, spokesperson Nawar Najmeh said in a statement to SANA on Monday.
