Washington, March 4 (SANA) – U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. Navy is prepared to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, amid escalating tensions in the region.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump said he had directed the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide political risk insurance and financial security guarantees for maritime trade, particularly energy shipments passing through the Gulf.
He noted that the coverage would be available to all shipping companies at reasonable rates.
“If necessary, the U.S. Navy will begin escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible,” Trump said.
The U.S. president stressed that Washington will ensure the free flow of global energy supplies, adding that further measures could be announced later.
Trump has previously stated that the military strikes on Iran aim to protect the United States and ensure the continued flow of maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz, within what he described as a framework of collective self-defense for regional allies.
Joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran have continued since Saturday, while Tehran has intensified missile and drone attacks against several Arab countries, targeting infrastructure, civilian and diplomatic facilities, and energy installations.
