New York, Feb. 6 (SANA) Basic services at al-Hol camp in northeastern Syria are gradually returning to normal following the restoration of government control over the camp, a spokesperson for the UN refugee agency said.
Celine Schmitt, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Syria, told the Associated Press on Thursday that the situation at the camp is calm, with some humanitarian organizations resuming the distribution of food assistance.
Schmitt said a UNHCR team visited the camp after it came under government control and was able to rapidly restore essential humanitarian services, including access to health centers. She added that, as of January 23, UNHCR had succeeded in delivering bread and water inside the camp.
Earlier this month, the Internal Security Forces began securing al-Hol camp east of Hasakah following the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which had left the camp without protection.
Separately, the Syrian Development Organization announced it has launched a comprehensive census operation inside the camp, using advanced technical tools and direct engagement with residents to establish a reference database aimed at organizing aid, protection, and community reintegration efforts, while ensuring transparency, data privacy, and residents’ rights.
