Erdogan: Syria's territorial integrity a strategic necessity for regional security
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Ankara, Jan.2 (SANA)Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, affirmed that Syria’s stability and territorial integrity are a strategic necessity for the security of Turkey and the entire region, saying that historical, geographical and cultural ties between the two countries make the relationship between their people a deep-rooted bond of brotherhood.

“The length of shared border and common cultural heritage and social ties between the two countries make close cooperation between them undeniable, despite attempts by some political sides inside Turkey to downplay the importance of this relationship in recent years,” Erdogan said in a statement following a cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday.

The Turkish president added that Ankara is making intensive efforts to reduce tensions in northern Syria, stressing that Turkey’s goal is to support a track that guarantees the unity of Syrian territory and the establishment of a one state with a unified army, far away from projects of partition or chaos.

Erdogan indicated that the current phase opens a new chapter in relations between the two sides, noting that all spectrums of the Syrian people must live in peace and stability, and that any attempt to incite discord among the people will fail.

The Turkish president recently affirmed that Syria is moving rapidly toward recovery and stability after turning the page on the ousted regime.
