Doha, Jan. 31 (SANA) Qatar on Saturday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressing hope that it will contribute to peace and stability in Syria.
In a statement posted on X, the Qatari Foreign Ministry emphasized that Syria’s stability and prosperity require the state’s monopoly on weapons through a unified army representing all Syrian communities, ensuring the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
The ministry also reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for Syria’s unity and the Syrian people’s aspirations for stability, development, and prosperity, highlighting the role of the United States in facilitating the agreement.
On Friday, the Syrian government announced a ceasefire agreement with the SDF as part of a broader deal, including a phased integration of military and administrative forces, the deployment of security forces to Hasakah and Qamishli, and the handover of civil institutions, government facilities, and border crossings to the Syrian state.
