Damascus, Jan.28 (SANA) Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Syriac Orthodox Church, on Tuesday, called on the international community to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria.
The call came during a reception held at the Patriarchate headquarters in Damascus for ambassadors, chargés d’affaires, heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organizations operating in Syria, on the occasion of the New Year.
The Patriarch expressed his gratitude to the countries that continue to provide support to Syria, stressing the importance of sustaining and expanding international assistance to include reconstruction efforts. He noted that such support would help advance the country toward growth and prosperity, emphasizing that all Syrians are eager for peaceful solutions that safeguard the unity of the nation and the rights of its citizens in all their diversity.
For their part, the diplomats voiced their appreciation for the gathering, which they said reflects the generosity of the Syriac Orthodox Church and the hospitality of the Syrian people.
The event highlighted the spiritual and national role of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Syria and its ongoing efforts to promote the values of peace, dialogue, and coexistence among the various components of Syrian society.
