Davos, Jan. 23 (SANA) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday that preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity is essential for regional security and stability, warning against actions that could drag the country into new conflicts.
Speaking to journalists after attending the signing ceremony of the “Board of Peace” charter in Davos, Fidan said Syria’s shift away from conflict would have broad regional implications.
“Transforming from a country that exported terrorism and refugees into one moving toward unity, repatriating refugees and stopping terrorism is close to a miracle for the region,” he was quoted as saying by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.
Fidan stressed the need to protect the rights of all components of Syrian society and called for consolidating political and security gains on the ground to ensure their sustainability.
He also urged Syrians to unite under a shared national identity and citizenship to help rebuild the country, adding that Turkey would continue to play a constructive role in supporting Syria’s territorial unity.
Fidan has repeatedly said that stability in Syria is a cornerstone of stability across the wider region.
