New York, Jan. 23 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, met with the United States’ new UN envoy, Mike Waltz, in New York on Thursday night to discuss potential areas of cooperation and the work of the international organization.
According to a post by Syria’s UN mission on X, the diplomats held a “fruitful and constructive” meeting, focusing on the UN’s activities and opportunities for collaboration between Damascus and Washington.
The meeting comes a day after the UN Security Council held a special session on Syria, during which U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea expressed Washington’s support for the Syrian government’s efforts to achieve peace and stability for its citizens.
Mike Waltz was confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by the Senate in September 2025.
