Beirut, Jan. 14 (SANA) Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri reiterated his country’s commitment to maintaining the best possible relations with Syria and Lebanon’s rejection to any threat to Syria’s security originating from Lebanese territory.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Mitri said during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday at Dar Al-Fatwa in the city of Tripoli that Lebanon endorses a policy of consolidating state authority, adopting openness, and safeguarding strong relations with Syria.
“We exchange information with the Syrian side regarding any threats to both countries, and any threat to Syria’s security is a threat to our own security,” Mitri said.
Mitri stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Syria, noting that this serves the direct interests of both the Lebanese and Syrian peoples at the political and economic levels, and constitutes a key pillar for stability and good neighbourly relations.
Participants in the meeting voiced their full support for all legal and security measures taken by the Lebanese state to preserve stability and prevent any practices or attempts that could threaten Syria’s security from Lebanese territory or undermine good neighbourly relations between the two countries.
On Monday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Lebanese-Syrian relations are good, and that security and military contacts and coordination between the two sides are ongoing.
