Damascus, Dec. 26 (SANA) A Syrian Foreign Ministry official source said Friday that repeated statements by SDF about Syria’s unity contradict the situation in the country’s northeast, where administrative, security, and military institutions operate separately out of the state, reinforcing division rather than resolving it.
The official told SANA that talks to integrate these institutions into state structures have remained theoretical, with no concrete steps or clear timelines, raising doubts about the seriousness of implementing the March 10 agreement.
He added that despite SDF statements regarding ongoing dialogue with the Syrian state, the discussions have produced no tangible results. He said the rhetoric appears aimed at media positioning and deflecting political pressure amid a stalemate and a lack of genuine intent to move toward implementation.
On the military issue, the official said continued presence of armed groups outside the Syrian army, with independent leadership and external ties, undermines sovereignty and obstructs stability. He added that unilateral SDF control over crossings and borders, which are being used as a bargaining tool, violates national sovereignty.
The official further said SDF claims that oil belongs to all Syrians are meaningless as long as revenues are not managed within state institutions or included in the national budget. He added that talk of converging viewpoints remains without substance unless translated into formal agreements with clear, time-bound implementation mechanisms.
Finally, the official stressed that current decentralization proposals go beyond administrative measures into political and security decentralization, threatening state unity and solidifying de facto entities. Claims that the region is “managed by its own people” ignore political exclusion, monopolization of decision-making, and the lack of genuine representation of societal diversity in northeastern Syria.
