Damascus, Dec. 11 (SANA) Syrian activist Farid al-Mazhan, known as “Caesar,” hailed the U.S. House of Representatives’ vote to repeal the Caesar Act. The Act was based on thousands of photos he revealed, documenting abuses by Assad’s regime against Syrian prisoners.
In a post on X, al-Mazhan wrote, “In this historic moment, with the U.S. Congress’ decision to repeal the Caesar Act, pending a vote in the Senate and President Trump’s signature, I am filled with a deep sense of joy and hope.”
He added that all Syrians have endured difficult years and harsh conditions, which have left painful marks on their souls. However, he said their patience and steadfastness have always been a “source of strength and inspiration for all of us.”
“Today, we are taking a step toward a long-awaited breakthrough, one that will ease suffering and close painful chapters that have burdened everyone,” he concluded.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted by a majority to repeal the sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act, enacted in December 2019 to penalize the former regime for war crimes committed against the Syrian people during the uprising.
