U.S. Secretary of State praises resilience of Syrians and backs peaceful transition

Washington, Dec.9 (SANA) U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the resilience of the Syrian people on Monday, saying they have taken important steps in the transition process alongside their government, according to remarks posted on X.

Rubio wrote: “One year ago, the Syrian people opened a new chapter in their history. Today, we commend the important steps taken by the government and the Syrian people in the transition process, along with the support provided by international partners.”

He added: “We salute the resilience of the Syrian people and reaffirm our support for a peaceful and prosperous Syria, one that embraces all its communities and enjoys peace with all its neighbors.”

Rubio’s remarks come as Syria marks the first anniversary of its liberation, a milestone widely observed by Syrians across different regions and communities, who have emphasized hope for a future built on stability, unity and national recovery.

The United States has issued several statements over recent months acknowledging developments inside Syria and expressing support for continued progress toward a peaceful and prosperous future
