Turkey emphasized that it places “great importance” on Syria’s territorial integrity and national interests, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, highlighting Ankara’s efforts to promote stability, support the return of refugees, and help the Syrian government secure international backing.
Speaking on Turkish broadcaster A Haber late Saturday, Fidan called on all parties to respect Syria’s sovereignty, end any occupation of its territory, and avoid actions that could threaten the country. He added that Syria poses no threat to regional actors.
Fidan also addressed negotiations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), blaming delays on the SDF “straying from the process at times and seeking new opportunities through emerging regional crises.”
On Gaza, Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement, noting that Ankara will continue backing the deal, though it does not provide guarantees in the traditional sense. He added that Turkey continues to send humanitarian aid to Gaza without interruption.
