Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani confirmed on Sunday that President Ahmad al-Sharaa will visit Washington, D.C. in November.
Speaking at the 2025 Manama Dialogue Forum, al-Shaibani said, “President al-Sharaa is scheduled to visit the White House this month, where he will hold discussions on Syria’s post-war reconstruction”.
As the visit is expected to discuss also the full lift of sanction on Syria, the foreign minister highlighted that “there is no justification for the sanctions to continue,” reiterating Syria’s desire to establish balanced relations with all countries.
The visit marks the first time a Syrian president has traveled to Washington since the country’s independence in 1946, and the second visit by President al-Sharaa to the U.S., following his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last September.
President al-Sharaa previously met with U.S. President Donald Trump on May 14 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during a historic summit in which Trump announced the lifting of sanctions on Syria. A second meeting between the two leaders took place on the sidelines of the 2025 UN General Assembly.
