Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met Saturday with members of the National Committee investigating recent events in Sweida province, expressing support for the committee’s efforts to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
According to a statement by the Ministry on its Telegram channel, the committee briefed the minister on its ongoing work, emphasized that it is working independently with commitment to professional and national standards. It said it had gathered hundreds of testimonies and statements under strict confidentiality as part of its forthcoming report.

Al-Shaibani expressed the ministry’s full support for the committee’s independence and its efforts in identifying those responsible for any violations and hold them accountable. He underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in addressing Sweida events.
The minister described what happened in Sweida as a “painful Syrian wound” exploited by both internal and external actors. He emphasized that “there is no alternative but to restore security and stability” in the governorate, “reject incitement and hate speech, and continue humanitarian assistance” to affected people there.
The committee was established on July 31 following acts of violence in Sweida. It is tasked with uncovering the facts and holding those responsible to account.
