Minister of Defense Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra met in Damascus with a high-level Turkish delegation led by Lieutenant General İlkay Altındağ, Director General of Defense and Security at the Turkish Ministry of Defense, Syria’s Defense Ministry said.
In a statement on its Telegram channel, the ministry said the officials discussed cooperation on various issues of mutual interest.
The visit came just days after a high-level Syrian delegation-comprising Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, Defense Minister Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra, and General Intelligence Chief Hussein Al-Salama-visited Ankara and met with top political, defense, and security officials.
Talks during that visit focused on counterterrorism, border control, regional stability, bilateral cooperation, and joint training, as part of broader efforts to strengthen coordination and mutual understanding between the two countries.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said following the visit that the discussions aimed at exploring joint steps to ensure Syria’s security while preserving its territorial integrity.
Syria and Turkey are taking steps to enhance cooperation that could help Syria recover from the devastation of its 14-year war on multiple levels.
