Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Syria’s stability and territorial integrity and preventing any attacks on its sovereignty.
“We look forward to fruitful cooperation between our two countries in various sectors, and to increasing partnership in efforts to combat terrorism and eliminate terrorist organizations,” the Iraqi presidency cited Rashid as saying Tuesday in his speech to the UNGA in New York.
Rashid denounced the “Israeli attacks” on regional countries, including Syria, Lebanon, and the State of Qatar, in clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.
“The killing, starvation, displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and devastation of Palestinian institutions are a shameful situation for all of humanity,” the Iraqi president said, emphasizing the need to work to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Rashid called for urgent international action to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue by implementing UN resolutions and enabling the Palestinian people to build their independent state.
The General Assembly’s high-level week kicked off on Tuesday, with the participation of heads of state and representatives of UN member states.
