Lebanese Justice: New mechanisms to boost coordination between Lebanon and Syria

Beirut, SANA- The Lebanese Ministry of Justice announced Tuesday that Lebanon and Syria have agreed to adopt new mechanisms to enhance communication and coordination between the two countries.

“Following the visit of an official delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic to Beirut and its meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri in his office, it was agreed to establish new mechanisms to enhance communication and coordination between the two countries, and as a result, two specialized committees were formed to follow up on joint issues, one in Lebanon and the other in Syria,” the Lebanese National News Agency quoted Minister of Justice Adel Nassar as saying in a statement.

The statement added, “The two committees held their first meeting in Damascus, where they discussed critical security and legal issues,” clarifying that the two sides agreed to hold their second meeting soon in Beirut to continue the discussions and build upon the outcomes of the first round.”

A preliminary meeting was held Monday in Damascus between committees from the Ministry of Justice and the security agencies, following the previous meeting between the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry delegation and the Lebanese government.
