Million Usernames and Passwords Exposed by Unsecured Database

Washington, Jan. 25 (SANA) An unsecured database containing 149 million usernames and passwords for major online services was taken offline after a security researcher reported the exposure to the hosting provider.

According to reports from Wired, a U.S. magazine specializing in business, commerce, and technology, security analyst Jeremiah Fowler discovered the unencrypted database. It included 48 million Gmail credentials, 17 million Facebook logins, and 420,000 accounts linked to cryptocurrency platform Binance. The database also contained access details for banking and government systems.

Fowler said the data appeared to have been collected using “infostealer” malware, which harvests login information from infected devices.

The hosting provider removed the database following notification, but the incident highlights the ongoing risks of large-scale credential theft and unsecured data storage.
