Damascus Orchestra revives classic songs at the Opera House

Damascus, Dec. 3 (SANA) The Damascus Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Mohammad Zaghloul, brought the timeless magic of Tarab to life with a concert titled “Days of Tarab… Songs of the Past” at the Damascus Opera House. The performance transported the audience back to the golden era of Arab music, filling the venue with a palpable sense of nostalgia and excitement.

The evening’s program featured some of the most cherished classical Arabic masterpieces, starting with Zaghloul’s own composition, “Memory,” a tribute to his late parents. The concert also showcased performances by talented singers ‎Lamita Aichou, Nour Eddin Zaytoun, Silvana Diyab, Rona Nofal, and Ammar Younes, who delivered heartfelt renditions of classic Tarab songs.

In a statement, Maestro Zaghloul shared that the concert aimed not only to revive beloved songs tied to the audience’s cultural memories but also to provide a platform for young academic talents to perform on the prestigious Opera House stage. The sold-out event underscored the public’s deep appreciation for such cultural experiences, with Zaghloul expressing hope to bring similar concerts to other cities across Syria.

Founded in 2016, the Damascus Orchestra is made up of graduates from Syria’s top music institutions. It remains committed to preserving and presenting traditional Syrian and Arab Tarab music, breathing new life into the region’s rich musical heritage.
