Damascus, Sep. 5 (SANA) Syria won the presidency of the Permanent Arab Committee for Meteorology after Abdul Karim Mohammad, director of the National Center for Meteorology, secured 13 votes during the 166th session of the Arab League Council held Saturday at the Arab League General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said in a post on its Telegram channel Saturday that the session’s agenda included elections for the heads of several permanent committees affiliated with the council.
The elections covered the Permanent Arab Committee for Meteorology, the Human Rights Committee, the Permanent Committee for Media and the International Humanitarian Law Committee. The session’s agenda included the appointment of judges to the Arab League Administrative Tribunal.
The Permanent Arab Committee for Meteorology is one of the Arab League’s specialized committees. Established in 1970, it brings together the heads of meteorological authorities and services in Arab countries.
The committee elects its chair from among its members for a two-year term and holds regular annual meetings to discuss Arab cooperation and coordination in meteorology and climate.
