Lattakia wildfires rage on as firefighters race to protect forests and civilians

Lattakia, SANA-Civil defense and firefighting teams in Lattakia Governorate are continuing their efforts to extinguish wildfires that broke out in Jabal al-Turkman area of northern city and have spread across vast forested areas between al-Bassit and Qastal Maaf.

Director of Disasters and Emergencies department in Lattakia province Abdulkafi Kayyal, told SANA that this is one of the most dangerous fires the region has faced.

He emphasized that firefighting teams are exerting maximum effort to prevent the flames from reaching nearby villages and populated areas, and the coordination is underway with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management to deploy reinforcement teams from other governorates and to secure tracked vehicles capable of opening new access routes and isolating fire hotspots to limit the spread.

Kayyal urged residents, tourists, and farmers to exercise extreme caution and refrain from lighting any fires during outings or agricultural work, in order to protect the forests and green spaces that belong to all Syrians.
