Deputy Minister of Tourism: Tourist facilities will be monitored by the Tourist Police to ensure quality services

Damascus, SANA-Deputy Minister of Tourism for Development and Investment Affairs, Ghiath al-Farrah, affirmed that the monitoring of tourist facilities, in accordance with Resolution 294, will be carried out solely by the Tourist Police, who were recently trained in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. This is to ensure that no riots or chaos occur by anyone. This measure is intended to ensure the quality of services provided to visitors.

Commenting on the reactions on social media regarding Resolution 294, which stipulates safety and security measures on beaches, al-Farrah said that this resolution is renewed every tourist season. The difference is that these instructions used to be issued by the Tourist Facilities Administration, now the resolution has been issued in official form by the Ministry of Tourism to monitor facilities and protect beachgoers.

He added that the announced resolution did not include any prohibition on any type of swimwear, on the contrary, the burkini, which was banned under the former regime, was permitted on almost all beaches.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism indicated that the resolution encourages the protection and safety of visitors, including appropriate swimming times, adherence to lifeguard instructions and warning signs, to ensure their safety. It was not limited to swimming clothing only, as circulated on social media.

Al-Farrah added that the resolution was made following a study by experts and a review of the experiences of neighboring countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan, regarding beaches. The resolution will be implemented during the 2025 tourist season, after which the possibility of amending or developing the decision will be studied based on the resulting data.
