First group of Syrian pilgrims take off to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Damascus, SANA-First group of Syrian pilgrims departed on Sunday to Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia for Hajj as other groups to follow until 2nd of June.

 Minister of Endowments (Awqaf), Dr. Mohammad Abu al-Khair Shukri told SANA as he toured Damascus international airport to review services offered for the pilgrims, that “this is the first Hajj after liberation from the former regime and the ministry is serving some 22500 pilgrims from Syria and some other countries”.

The Minister added that Ministry and other governmental institutions arranged the Hajj and will secure the pilgrims with hotel reservations and provide them with all needs in the kingdom. He noted that the Endowment Ministry will ask the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to increase the number of pilgrims for the next year.

Head of Damascus office at Hajj Directorate, Omran Sheikh Yousef said that the pilgrims will be transported through 66 flights and “there will be five flights per day.”

Supervisor of the Syrian Hajj mission, Haian Darwish said that two flights have departed today carrying 250 pilgrims. He noted that there are volunteer groups who are working to facilitate their travel.
