Ministry of Information: shooting around the university dormitory in Lattakia was an expression of joy, not intended to intimidate students

Damascus, SANA-The Public Relations Director at the Ministry of Information, Ali Al-Rifai, said that the shooting around the university dormitory in Lattakia was merely a spontaneous expression of joy by a number of security personnel surrounding the youth dormitory following the announcement of the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria.

Al-Rifai added that shooting was in the direction of the air, and no injuries or damage were recorded.

He denied in a statement Friday fake rumors circulated on some media platforms and social network sites that the shooting was intended to “terrorize students,” or that it included any sectarian or racist chants.

Al-Rifai emphasized that those allegations are completely untrue and are only intended to stir up confusion and distort reality.
