The workshop, attended by Minister of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad and Turkish Ambassador to Damascus Burhan Oglu, aimed to discuss ways to enhance national food security, challenges, and opportunities in developing palm cultivation, mechanisms for developing fertilizer, seed, , water conservation, and soil improvement, and to review the latest solutions in automated pollination and fumigation of palm trees using high-tech devices.

Minister al-Ahmad, in a statement to SANA, highlighted the importance of agricultural cooperation between Syria and Turkey, by benefiting from Turkey’s scientific and technical renaissance, especially in the field of modern mechanization in palm pollination.

He said that Syrians residing in Turkey have significantly contributed to the development of technologies in Turkey and have established scientific and technical companies that have gained a reputation both inside and outside Turkey.

For his part, the Turkish Ambassador to Damascus, Burhan Oglu, noted that Turkey is interested in supporting the agricultural sector in Syria, developing agricultural relations between the two countries, and introducing modern Turkish agricultural technologies and mechanization to Syria. Dr. Ahmed al-Muhammad, Director of the Turkish company Materialsan, explained that the workshop aims to introduce Syrian technicians to Turkish agricultural technologies, support Syrian agriculture with modern technologies, contribute to achieving food security in both plant and animal sectors, and apply modern technology to improve seed production and palm pollination.

For his part, the Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Bassam al-Hussein, explained that the workshop was held to learn about the most important modern Turkish technologies, especially the devices specialized in pollinating palm trees produced by the Turkish company “GreenOrky,” which helps in increasing palm production and alleviating the burden on farmers, in addition to the workshop addressing the issue of mechanisms for developing the production of fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, providing water, and improving the soil.
