Two electricity-generating ships from Turkey and Qatar to provide Syria with 800 megawatts

Damascus, SANA- Director General of the General Establishment for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, Engineer Khaled Abu Dai, has revealed that Syria will receive two electricity-generating ships from Turkey and Qatar to boost energy supplies.

In a statement to SANA, the Director General of the General Establishment said that work is currently underway to secure transmission lines to receive electricity from the docking location of these two ships, as electricity transmission lines will be extended from them to the nearest transformer station to be connected to the electricity grid.

Abu Dai added that these ships will arrive in the coming period and they will provide Syria with a total of 800 megawatts which is equivalent to half of what is currently being generated and this will contribute to increasing the citizen’s share of electricity by approximately 50 percent.

“We communicated with Turkey, Qatar and Jordan to secure the power supply,” Abu Dai said, adding that the power transmission line of” Amman-Deir Ali “needs months of maintenance to be put into service, and the connection line with Turkey needs a longer period to be ready because of the scale of damage to the electrical system during the period of the former regime, as a result of neglect and systematic destruction.

Abu Dai noted that the extent of the damage to the generation and transformation stations and electrical connection lines is very large, and the Establishment seeks to be proactive in operating the generation stations so that the network will be able to transmit energy.
