Idleb, Dec. 14 (SANA) Four members of the Road Security Directorate at Syria’s Ministry of Interior were martyred and a fifth was injured in an attack targeted their patrol on Sunday, on Maarrat al-Numan’s road, south of Idleb Province.
In a statement published on the Ministry of Interior’s official Telegram channel, the ministry said the patrol came under attack during the execution of its mission, resulting in multiple casualties among its personnel.
The statement added that specialized security units have launched intensive sweep operations in the area to pursue those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
The incident came a day after a separate attack near the city of Palmyra, where an armed militant affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS opened fire on a meeting site that included officials from the desert security command and a delegation from International Coalition forces. That attack resulted in the deaths of two U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter, and injuries to several other American personnel and Syrian security members.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and stability and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
