Damascus, Dec. 13 (SANA) Some 759 students from across Syria participated in the second stage of the 2026 Syrian Scientific Olympiad, competing in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics.
The tests were held simultaneously at university centers and included students who qualified from the first stage. Grading was centralized and automated.
The Distinction and Creativity Agency said the goal of this stage is to select the best students to form national teams representing Syria in international competitions. Intensive training will begin after the teams are selected.
The agency highlighted Syrian achievements this year, including a gold medal at the World Robot Olympiad, as well as silver and bronze medals and high international rankings.
The top 50 students in each discipline will advance to the final rounds during the mid-year break, with mathematics recording the highest participation rate.
Olympiad organizers said higher competition levels improve the quality of qualifiers and strengthen national teams. Students noted that participation is a step toward achieving their scientific aspirations with the support of their families and coaches.
