Higher Committee for Elections: legislative voting starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday

Spokesman of Higher Committee for Elections Nawar Najmeh said on Saturday that members of the electoral colleges will begin arriving to the polling stations and present their identification documents to receive their electoral cards at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, later, they go to heads of the subcommittees to receive the officially-stamped ballot paper.

“Voting for the Parliament initially ends at 12 midday, If not all members of the electoral colleges cast their votes, voting can be extended to 4:00 PM at most,” Najmeh added.

He went on to say that at the end of the voting process, the ballot box will be opened for public to all media outlets, and the vote counting will begin. Once the counting begins, the preliminary results will be published in the media.

Najmeh affirmed that the preliminary results and names will be presented to the appeals’ committees after their issuance by the High Elections Commission in the event of objections from members of the electoral colleges regarding the voting or counting mechanism.

Najmeh asserted that the official results will be announced during an official press conference to be held by the High Elections Commission for the People’s Assembly next Monday or Tuesday.
