Civil defense teams and firefighting units contained several wildfire hotspots on Wednesday as they continued battling blazes for the fourth consecutive day across Jabal al-Turkman area in northern Lattakia countryside.

“Operations are being carried out under difficult field conditions that hinder direct access to some of the burning sites,” Abdul Kafi Kayyal, Director of the Civil Defense Department in Latakia, told SANA.

He explained that the fires have spread to remote areas that are hard to reach, particularly because of unexploded landmines in some locations.

Kayyal said the teams managed to fully contain and cool several hotspots on Wednesday, while efforts are ongoing to bring other fires under control.

He added that close coordination among the relevant authorities and joint efforts, have contributed to achieving tangible progress.
