Damascus – SANA
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates hailed the upcoming visit of the Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani to Washington as “historic” for being the first by a Syrian Foreign Minister in twenty-five years.
The Media Department at the Foreign Ministry told SANA that the visit “marks a pivotal milestone in the course of Syrian–U.S. relations after decades of interruption”.
The Ministry noted that the visit reflects Syria’s openness to direct dialogue with the United States in a bid to “open a new page” in bilateral relations as it will discuss “issues of mutual interest in the political, security, and economic fields” to serve the interests of the Syrian people.
The visit comes as Syria and the United States of America are restoring relations after decades of cut and after months of President Donald Trump decided to lift sanctions on Damascus paving the way for normalizing relations.
