Communications Ministry announces Syria’s return to Global Telecommunications Network

Damascus, SANA- The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced Wednesday that Syria is rejoining the global telecommunications system after more than a decade of disconnection.

The ministry said that during the official visit by Syrian Minister of Communications, Abdul-Salam Haykal, to the Jordanian capital, Amman, Syria’s renewed membership in the GSMA—the global association for cellular communications—was confirmed.

The ministry noted that this move allows Syria to benefit from the association’s services and to take part in international events and conferences related to telecommunications, opening the door for Syrian companies to reconnect with the global network.

The minister also received an official invitation to attend the “Mobile World Doha Congress,” scheduled to be held in Qatar this November which considered a significant step toward enhancing regional cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field.
