Syrian Writers Union discusses confronting media chaos on social platforms

Damascus, SANA – The Arab Writers Union in Syria on Monday held a dialogue seminar titled “Media in the Time of Social Media… Between Exporting the Truth and Spreading Chaos”, featuring media expert Dr. Ahmed Taqash and social media activist Rami Takriti, with the participation of intellectuals and those interested in media and cultural affairs.

Dr. Taqash presented a comprehensive plan for media training within cultural institutions, resuming such programs after a pause of more than fifteen years. The plan aims to build skills to confront hate speech and enhance public awareness, taking into account the sensitivity of the current situation.

For his part, Takriti outlined the negative effects of excessive social media use, including loss of time, lack of physical activity and related health issues, as well as distraction and reduced concentration.

Arab Writers Union President Dr. Mohammad Othman told SANA that the union is preparing a comprehensive plan for digital transformation, seeking to deliver literary and intellectual content to the widest possible audience, particularly young people.

The seminar is part of the union’s efforts to modernize its tools in line with global digital trends and its belief in the role of new media in shaping public awareness and guiding opinion—especially in the post-war period, which, the union says, requires combined cultural, intellectual, and media efforts to rebuild national consciousness.
