Cyber-attack on Australian Airline exposes data of 6 million customers

Canberra, SANA–Australian airline Qantas has announced that it was targeted in a cyberattack that may have compromised the personal data of approximately six million of its customers. The airline stated that it successfully contained the breach and secured its systems shortly after the incident.

According to The Guardian, Qantas said in a statement that the breach occurred when a cybercriminal targeted a call center and gained access to one of its customer service platforms. The compromised data includes customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and frequent flyer numbers. However, credit card details, financial information, and passport data were not affected.

Qantas emphasized that no frequent flyer accounts were breached, nor were any passwords, PINs, or login credentials accessed.

The airline first detected the suspicious activity on Monday and immediately took action to contain the breach. It continues to investigate the incident to determine the exact scope of the compromised data.
