Washington, Oct. 10 (SANA)— Five people were shot dead in the city of Douglas, in the US state of Georgia, police announced on Saturday.
Reuters quoted the Douglas Police Department as saying that five people were shot and killed at a home in the city on Friday.
According to a police statement, officers responded late Friday to a report of a shooting and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities later announced all five victims dead.
The police department said an investigation had been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate incident, two people were killed and five others injured, including three police officers, in a shooting at a residential building in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 3.
Recent data indicate that the US firearm homicide rate has declined in recent years, falling to 4.7 deaths per 100,000 people in 2024. However, gun violence remains a widespread concern for US authorities.
