New Delhi/Kathmandu, Sept. 27 (SANA) Heavy rain, floods and landslides have killed at least 70 people in India and Nepal, while 11 people are missing in Nepal, Reuters reported on Sunday, citing authorities in both countries.
In India’s Uttar Pradesh state, 56 people have died, 46 have been injured and more than 1,000 homes have been damaged after days of heavy rain, the state’s relief commissioner said. Authorities were conducting rescue operations in flooded areas and assessing damage to crops.
Nepal reported 14 deaths. Authorities warned of possible flash floods in 49 of the country’s 77 districts, with more than half at high risk as water levels rose in major rivers and their tributaries.
In a separate incident in Nepal, 10 workers were missing after an avalanche buried a base camp on Himlung Himal, a 7,126-metre mountain in the northern Manang district, mountaineering officials said. The workers were setting up tents for foreign climbers, who were not at the camp when the avalanche struck.
