New York, Sept. 27 (SANA) A powerful nor’easter forced airlines to cancel 445 flights to and from U.S. airports and left tens of thousands of homes and businesses without electricity after sweeping across the U.S. East Coast.
More than 73,000 customers in New Jersey, cConnecticut, New York and Pennsylvania were still without power on Saturday, the Associated Press reported Sunday, citing the outage tracking website PowerOutage.us.
The website said more than 20,000 customers in each of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York remained without electricity, while total outages across the four states had exceeded 100,000.
FlightAware reported that about 445 flights to and from U.S. airports were canceled, while another 3,016 flights were delayed.
The National Weather Service said the nor’easter was expected to bring high surf, rip currents, strong winds and heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic and New England through Monday.
Earlier this year, the northeastern United States was hit by a similar storm that disrupted hundreds of flights and cut electricity to thousands of homes and businesses, weeks after a winter weather system in the region left more than 100 people dead.
