Occupied Jerusalem, June 1 (SANA) Israeli occupation authorities are moving forward with plans to build at least 2,721 new settlement units in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.
The commission said the Higher Planning Council of Israel’s Civil Administration had scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to discuss a new package of settlement projects affecting several areas of the West Bank.
According to the commission, the plans include the construction of at least 2,721 units, as well as planning and zoning measures aimed at expanding the jurisdiction of existing settlements and strengthening their legal and administrative frameworks.
Among the largest projects under consideration is a proposal to build 1,006 housing units in the settlement of Gvaot, west of Bethlehem. The site has been treated as an independent settlement since it was separated from Alon Shvut in March 2025.
Additional construction plans are expected to be discussed in settlements located in the governorates of Nablus, Jenin, Hebron and Salfit.
The commission said the meeting would also examine proposals related to construction boundaries, land-use changes and other planning measures that it said would further support settlement expansion in the occupied territory.
Palestinian officials said the proposed plans reflect continued efforts to expand settlements and establish new facts on the ground, warning that they could lead to further land confiscations and increased fragmentation of Palestinian communities across the West Bank.
Settlement expansion remains one of the most contentious issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as Israel continues to approve new construction projects in settlements across the occupied West Bank.
