Riyadh, May 5 (SANA) Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday it was concerned about the ongoing military escalation in the region, urging restraint and a return to diplomacy.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry called on all parties to avoid further escalation, exercise self-restraint and support mediation efforts led by Pakistan, alongside broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at reaching a political solution.
It warned that continued tensions risk pushing the region toward greater instability, with potential consequences for global security.
The statement comes as the situation in the region has grown more volatile following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of “Project Freedom,” operation aimed at reopening shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
The move has been accompanied by an increased military presence and warnings from Iran, while diplomatic efforts have stalled and the crisis continues to weigh on global energy markets, despite a fragile truce between Washington and Tehran in place since April 8.
