Pakistan urges restraint and de-escalation after U.S. strikes on Iran
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar

Islamabad, July 12 (SANA) Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on all parties to exercise restraint and pursue de-escalation following U.S. military strikes on Iran, saying dialogue and diplomacy remain the only path to resolving conflicts and achieving lasting regional peace.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Dar made the remarks during a telephone conversation on Sunday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The ministry said Dar stressed the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen regional stability in accordance with the memorandum of understanding reached between Washington and Tehran on June 18.

Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in supporting peace and stability in the region. The two ministers agreed to remain in close contact and maintain coordination, the ministry said.

The call came after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a new round of airstrikes on targets in Iran early Sunday, following an Iranian attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Shortly beforehand, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the temporary closure of the strategic waterway, citing what it called a security breach and illegal foreign interference.
