Washington, April 30 (SANA) The United States is preparing new military options against Iran, with President Donald Trump set to receive a briefing Thursday from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Admiral Brad Cooper, according to U.S. media reports.
The briefing is expected to outline potential scenarios for military action, as Washington reassesses its approach amid stalled negotiations.
According to Axios, the plans suggest the administration is considering renewed military pressure, either to break the diplomatic impasse or to strengthen its position ahead of any potential settlement.
Calls to abandon diplomacy appear to be gaining traction in Washington. Senator Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, urged a shift toward military options, arguing that negotiations alone may not be sufficient to ensure stability.
No final decision has been announced, and it remains unclear how the administration will balance diplomatic and military approaches going forward.
The developments come as the U.S. military campaign against Iran, known as “Operation Epic Fury,” enters its second month amid growing political scrutiny in Washington.
Testifying before the House Armed Services Committee, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the conflict is an “existential fight” aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, while defending the administration’s strategy against criticism.
Lawmakers questioned the effectiveness and cost of the campaign, which the Pentagon estimates at around $25 billion so far.
Some members of Congress accused the administration of providing inconsistent accounts of progress, while others warned of broader economic impacts, including rising energy prices.
The operation is also nearing the 60-day limit under the War Powers Resolution, increasing pressure on the administration to seek congressional authorization or adjust its approach.
