Occupied Jerusalem, April 28 (SANA) Israeli occupation forces detained eight Palestinians and issued demolition orders targeting homes in the West Bank on Tuesday, amid continued raids as arrest figures rise since the Gaza war began in late 2023.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Israeli forces carried out raids in several areas, including the Askar refugee camps, the village of Beit Iba in Nablus, Beit Fajjar in Bethlehem and the Jalazone refugee camp near Ramallah. Eight Palestinians were detained, six of them former prisoners.
In separate incidents, Israeli forces raided homes in the villages of Husan and Shuqba in the Ramallah area, detaining about 35 residents. Witnesses said detainees were physically assaulted before being released.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities issued demolition notices for five homes and a sheep barn in the village of Bireen, southeast of Hebron, raising concerns over further displacement.
According to Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups, arrest rates have surged since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. The number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons has increased by 83 percent, reaching more than 9,600 detainees by early April, compared with around 5,250 before the conflict.
