London, April 27 (SANA) Armed pirates have seized a general cargo vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis off the coast of Somalia, according to two British maritime security groups.
The Vanguard said pirates boarded the vessel “Sward” about six nautical miles north of the Somali coast and sailed it toward shore, according to Reuters.
It added that the 15-member crew, including 13 Syrians and two Indian nationals, is believed to remain under pirate control, with Puntland maritime police notified of the incident.
The Ambrey confirmed the hijacking, saying the ship was en route from Suez to Mombasa at the time of the attack, and that all crew were in the bridge except two technicians when the vessel was seized.
The Horn of Africa has seen a renewed rise in piracy activity after years of relative decline between 2008 and 2018, with recent incidents reported off Somalia’s coast.
