UN chief welcomes 10-day ceasefire announcement between Lebanon and Israel
UN Secretary-General António Guterres

New York, April 17 (SANA)  The United Nations has welcomed the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, with Secretary-General António Guterres expressing support for efforts to end the prolonged conflict.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement on Thursday, as published on the UN website, that the Secretary-General “welcomes the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and commends the role of the United States in facilitating the ceasefire.”

Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for all efforts aimed at ending hostilities and alleviating the suffering of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line.

Dujarric added that Guterres “further hopes that this agreement will contribute to ongoing efforts toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.”

On March 9, Guterres condemned ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon, warning that they posed a threat to the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
