Occupied Jerusalem, March 25 (SANA) The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday welcomed a joint international statement opposing annexation and ethnic cleansing in the occupied Palestinian territories, urging the international community to take immediate steps to halt Israeli measures.

In a statement, the ministry said the position, backed by members of the U.N. Security Council from Arab, Islamic and European countries, reflects growing international opposition to attempts to alter the demographic composition of the territories.

The ministry said settlement expansion and settler violence violate international law and undermine prospects for a just and lasting peace, calling for a halt to settlement construction and for existing settlements to be dismantled.

It reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, including the establishment of an independent state, in line with U.N. resolutions and an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024.

The ministry urged the international community, particularly the U.N. Security Council, to take concrete steps to protect Palestinians amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the West Bank and Gaza.

During a Security Council session on Tuesday, U.N. officials warned that the Gaza ceasefire remains fragile, citing ongoing Israeli strikes, rising violence in the West Bank and continued settlement expansion and demolitions.
