Amman, Feb. 26 (SANA) Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres held a phone call on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the escalating situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, the two officials reviewed efforts to strengthen cooperation in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and supporting Palestinian refugees. They stressed the need to uphold the cease-fire agreement and implement its provisions, noting that lasting stability requires a clear political horizon for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The conversation also touched on what Jordan described as Israel’s “illegal measures” in the West Bank. Safadi warned of attempts by Israeli authorities to annex Palestinian land under various pretexts, calling such actions a violation of international law that undermines prospects for peace. He urged effective international action in response.
Both sides also underscored the importance of supporting the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and ensuring it has the resources needed to continue providing essential services.
The talks come amid ongoing Israeli military escalation against Palestinians in Gaza and expanded settlement activity in the West Bank.
