New York, Feb. 17 (SANA) UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Israel to “immediately reverse” its new measures to seize large areas of land in the West Bank and designate them as “state land.”
His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said in a statement on Monday that Guterres believes such measures, including Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, are destabilizing and, as recalled by the International Court of Justice, unlawful.
Guterres said the current actions on the ground undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
On Sunday, the Israeli government approved a draft resolution allowing the registration of large areas of the West Bank as what it calls “state land” for the first time since 1967. The move has drawn criticism from Arab countries and other members of the international community.
