Guterres: Israeli actions in the West Bank violate international law
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres

New York, Feb. 10 (SANA) United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed that the illegal measures pursued by the Israeli authorities to impose sovereignty over the West Bank through intensified settlement expansion constitute a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said during his regular briefing to journalists in New York on Monday that “Guterres expressed deep concern over the decision of Israel’s Security Cabinet to authorize a series of administrative and enforcement measures in the West Bank.”

Guterres warned that the current trajectory on the ground undermines the prospects for a two-State solution, stressing that these measures are not only destabilizing but, as recalled by the International Court of Justice, unlawful.

He called on the Israeli authorities to immediately reverse these measures, urging all parties to preserve the only path toward achieving lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue violations and aggressive actions in the West Bank as part of settlement annexation schemes. On Sunday, new measures were approved aimed at bringing about a fundamental change in the legal status of the West Bank in order to tighten control over it.
